Sugar Dark is written by Enji Arai and illustrated by Mabae. It was first published in 2009, in Japan. It was the first novel in six years that managed to win the grand prize in the Sneaker Bunko LN Competition. The light novel has yet to be officially released in the United States. There also has yet to be an official English translation. There have been a few translation groups that have take on this project and it is relatively easy to get a Japanese copy.
The Familiar of Zero is written by Noboru Yamaguchi and illustrated by Eiji Usatsuka. It was first published in 2004. The series is still going strong with 20 volumes and counting. There have been four anime series based of the novels, each 12 episodes long. There are two light novel spin offs. Three manga based on it and an OVA. Also, there have been four games based on the series as well.
Baccano! is based of a light novel series of the sames name. The series ran for 21 volumes. It was written by Ryogo Narita, the creator of Durarara and Vamp!. Besides the anime the series has also spawned two manga series. The anime came out in 2007 and ran for 16 episodes.
Warning this post talk about fan service, a lot of fan service. There is just so much. Any way, High School of the Dead, is based of the manga by the same name. The manga was written by Daisuke Satō and illustrated by Shōji Satō (who by the way is mainly a hentai artist, which explains a lot about this manga. I looked him up, you know for research reasons). The series first came out in 2006 and ran till 2013. It is currently on hiatus and does not have a date in which it wall be starting again. Along with this anime there is also an OVA that came out in 2011 a year after this anime finished.
Fuse: Memoirs of a Huntress first came out in Japan in 2012. It is based on the novel Fuse Gansaku: Satomi Hakkenden by Kazuki Sakuraba. The story is losely based on the 106 volume novel Nansō Satomi Hakkenden (translated to The Eight Dog Chronicles, Tale of Eight Dogs, or Biographies of Eight Dogs) by Kyokutei Bakin. The main difference between the movie and the original work is that it fallow a female hunter.
Ghost in the Shell is well know and popular that since it’s release in 1989, there have been four movies, three television series, four games, three OVAs, and a live action film in the works. Chances are you have heard about this series. Chances are are you have not read the manga. The manga was originally published in 1989 and the came to America in 1995. The manga was written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow, pen name for Masanori Ota. Who also wrote the Appleseed manga. All of his work is cyberpunk influenced and is set in the future.
